Upgrade
Current Fincon Accounting version 5.284.003

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
If your current version is prior to version 5.208 up to 5.215, the upgrade changes stock item numbers to 25 and serial numbers to 40 characters long. It also changes the fixed selling price structure to 0 (from 9) and allows for up to 50 price structures in the suggested retail price matrix. It also changes document number lengths to 8 (from 6).
From version 5.239.001 the stock structure changed to allow for 40 locations and Min/Max levels per location. Please allow enough time for this upgrade as it can take a couple of hours depending on the amount of information in your data set.
Do this upgrade on the server first:
- Make a backup of companies’ data. Usually c:findata and all the sub folders. Make sure the backup is readable. Zipping the Findata folder usually works well. Call the zip file FindataBackupbeforeupgrade.zip.
THIS IS CRITICAL AND WE CANNOT HELP YOU IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BACKUP !!!!
- Make a backup of the c:fincon5 folder in case you need it.
- Make a backup of the c:fitserver folder in case you need it.
- Install the new fincon server FinconserverSetup.exe
- Restart the server. (Or start the Fincon Server Service under All Programs, Fincon Server, Server Configuration)
- Install the Fincon Update FinconCSClientSetup.exe
- Go into the Fincon program and make sure the update starts. You could face several challenges depending on how Fincon was originally installed / copied. If it starts with create new dataset or use existing, select existing and point it to c:findata. If it complains about a company path(s) not existing, it could be that you’ve since deleted the company. You can modify the path list under programs finconserver edit paths. Put in the c:findata path and press enter. Remove invalid paths in the list by clicking on it and pressing delete on the keyboard.
- Wait for the upgrade to complete before doing anything to the workstations.
This process could take several hours depending on the amount of information you have. Allow enough time for it to finish. If you hit any snags during the process you may have to restore your backup before trying again.
Once the server is done, then install FinconCSClientSetup.exe on the workstations. You may have to restart the workstation for it to be successful. If you can access Fincon it was successful.
